Day 14 – On this day, Galstaun College Year 10 and 11 students spent most of their day in the Shushi region of the Artsakh Republic. Their first stop was on the hill of the Tank which was captured from and used against the Azerbaijani soldiers during the freedom fight for Shushi. After this, students visited the Armenian Dram Museum (Money Museum) followed by ‘Kanach Jam’ (aka ‘Surp Hovannes Mkrtich’) Cathedral, the ‘Ghazanchetsots’ (aka ‘Surp Amenaprkich’) Cathedral and the Geological Museum. Before lunch, students enjoyed a hike to the ‘Jederdooze’ Gorge. In the afternoon, they played basketball with a local team in Stepanakert. The day was concluded with dinner at ‘Vostan’ restaurant, where freedom fighters Ruben Asatryan and Armond Tahmazyan addressed the students who also expressed their thoughts and feelings regarding their visit to Artsakh Republic. A Year 10 student’s surprise birthday celebration brought much joy later in the night.
