Armenia has a strong tradition and record in the chess world boasting one of the highest number of chess grandmasters per capita in the world. Since 2011, chess has been compulsory in all schools in Armenia for all students in Year 1 to Year 4 and due to the kind contribution of the Armenian Relief Society Sosseh Chapter, we are pleased to announce that Galstaun College has also been providing a compulsory chess program for all students from Year 1 to Year 4 just like in Armenia.
Chess is not only culturally important, but has added benefits of improving problem solving, concentration, decision making and responsibility. The Sydney Academy of Chess has been running the ARS Sosseh Chapter Chess Program for all Galstaun College students from Year 1 to Year 4 which involves a chess master teaching our students how to play competitive chess.
The donation by the ARS Sosseh Chapter involves 32 chess lessons throughout the year as well as participation in various tournaments. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the ARS Sosseh Chapter for their continuous support which is greatly valued by our students and our College community.
